Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity builds new homes and repairs homes for low-income seniors in Pasquotank County. We are an all-volunteer, tax-exempt 501 (c) (3) organization operating as an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.

This year, we completed five home repairs for low-income seniors. These included repairs to flooring, electrical wiring, and plumbing. Our repairs are limited to a total of $5000 per house and homeowners must be able to pay no more than $500 toward the costs of the repairs. They must also be able to provide lunches for the volunteers working on the home. The value of these repairs was slightly over $17,700.  Homeowners paid slightly over $1700 toward these costs. The remainder was covered by donations and grants.

In addition to the repairs that homeowners request, if the budget allows, we remove old tubs and install step-in showers which are safer for seniors to navigate. We also install grab bars, accessible door handles, and railings if required.

Looking toward 2026, we are planning to construct a new house for a qualified family. This family will participate in the construction by completing sweat equity hours. We are currently fundraising to help defray our construction costs. On Nov. 3, we will be having a fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse from 4-9 pm. We will receive 10% of the pre-tax sales for that night from patrons who bring or show a picture of our flyer. Please mark your calendars and come to enjoy a great meal and help us meet our goal.If you would like to make a donation to our building fund, you can go to our website, http://echabitat6.wixsitecom/ecityhabitat, and click on the Donate button. Donations may also be brought to Taylor Mueller Realty, 422 McArthur Dr. in Elizabeth City. For further information, contact us at 252-599-2467 or email us at echabiat@yahoo.com
