How many times must I forgive, Lord, how many times?
I’m injured and attacked all the time; almost every waking moment
They say that they’re sorry, time and time again, but they’re not
How many times, my Lord, how many times must I forgive them?
I’m sorry just doesn’t cut it anymore; how many times must I forgive?
It’s not easy, Lord, to forgive, for the same indiscretion, over and again
In fact, I find it very, very, hard and I don’t understand why, I must forgive again
And the lightning flashed and the thunder rolled across the heavens
A voice unlike any other boomed out and said: As a Christian it’s what you do
Just as Jesus forgave your past, present and future, sin, upon the cross
Yes, He died, gave His blood for you and now you must forgive like He did
Without reservation, hesitation or even any thought, you must forgive
You must forgive, Christ child, you must forgive, you must forgive, again
