By the time this is published I would have achieved my 86th birthday. That in itself is some kind of miracle. A little history, about 15 years ago I started this column to be able to inform members of a “Man To Man” prostate cancer support group, of meetings and health and nutrition strategies. The column went from “Health and Nutrition Strategies for Cancer Survivor and Everybody Else” to “Health and Nutrition Strategies”, to the current “What’s in Your Diet”.
I am a 20+yr cancer survivor with an aggressive cancer that’s always been detectable. My diagnosis required me to learn as much as possible about the disease. The most informative info to date was a clinical trial by Johns Hopkins and Howard County,Md. Involving muscadine grape skin and pulp. It controlled my prostate specific antigens (PSA’s} for over two years. That convinced me that FOOD IS MEDICINE.
Last time we discussed the herbicides Glyphosate and Diquat. I won’t waste your precious time by describing the debilitating effects of both of these chemicals since the description is readily available on your devices, except that since Bayer purchased Glyphosate formulations from Monsanto,Glyphosate is banned in Mexico, Vietnam, Germany and Saudi Arabia. However, there is NO FEDERAL BAN. Diquat is banned in the E.U. The U.K. and China. Again there’s NO FEDERAL BAN. Derogatory information seems to have been reduced. I will pause my opinion until the Federal litigation’s have been determined. Until then, I would use both the herbicide formulations with caution.
That said, I would consider the use of USDA Certified Organic products or trusted farmers.
Health and Human Services (HHS) has initiated a Food is Medicine policy which I strongly support since its been my mantra since I started this column more than a decade ago.
